The Low Down
Woohoo! This is a big year for Toyota: proven experts already with their famous hybrid Prius and Camry models, we’ve finally approached the time for the unveiling of the compact crossover SUV in an eco-friendly masterpiece. Not only is it the most fuel-efficient car in its class, but the most fuel-efficient AND hybrid on the market. Period. Essentially the only one in its class, we warmly welcome you, Rav4 – can’t wait to meet you!
A modern yet luxury interior that marries silver and either leatherette or soft cloth surfaces, this Toyota has got a roomy cabin, as your back passengers also have an abundance of space for a comfortable lounging promise for roadtrippers around the country. Plus, the 60/40 split seats in the back allow you for some serious adjusted reclining! We want to nap, already! Due to the large battery, the cargo space has lost just a little bit of room, but it’s still plenty for luggage or anything else you might be moving – especially if you fold down the seats.
A five-passenger compact SUV, the 2016 Toyota Rav4 comes in two levels:
XLE: 17-inch wheels, heated outside mirrors, sunroof, roof rails, dual-zone automatic climate control, rearview camera, adjustable driver seat, 60/40 split folding and reclining rear seat, 6.1” touchscreen interface, remote power liftgate, keyless entry/ignition, bluetooth, 6-speaker sound system and media player interface.
*XLE Convenience package bundles the Entune Premium Audio features with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, front/rear parking sensors, and Safety Sense package.
Limited: Upgrading to the Limited trim level includes chrome exterior trim, LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, heated outside mirrors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, front/rear parking sensors, synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, driver memory settings, adaptive cruise control, 7” touchscreen with nav, smartphone app integration, and satellite radio.
*Limited models offer an optional Advanced Technology package including an 11-speaker JBL premium audio system with a top-down-view parking camera system.
The Rav4 is a front-wheel drive consists of a 2.5-liter four cylinder engine, electric motors front and rear, nickel-metal hydride battery pack, and a CVT (standing for continuously variable transmission). Prepare for an estimated 33 mpg combined — which is 8 mpg more than the standard AWD Rav4. Another fun feature for the Rav is that the electrically driven rear-wheels automatically engage when needed in order to provide extra traction during slippery conditions! Toyota has also further insulated their model, resulting in a comfortable, quiet drive.
Standard on the 2016 Rav4 includes: antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags, full-length airbags, driver knee airbag, rear-view camera and integrated driver blind-spot mirror, and optional blind-spot warning system and rear cross-traffic alert.
Also optional (but standard on the Limited) is the Toyota Safety Sense system which includes a forward collision warning system, including pedestrian detection software, forward collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and intervention system, and auto high-beam headlight control. Toyota is always one of the leaders when it comes to safety, and the original Rav4 has received 5/5 stars for overall crash protection, and government “good” warnings all around!
6.1” or 7” touchscreen, bluetooth audio system, six speaker sound system, USB port, CD player, AUX audio jack, and media player interface.
Optional for the XLE is Entune Premium Audio package, which adds the bigger touchscreen, nav system, and smartphone app integration.
